Bird Walk at the Glencoe Golf Club Exploring Spring Migration!

Our group of birders was expertly led by Tim Joyce of Birdscaping Services, who shared with the group the fascinating story of spring migration and the importance of golf courses to the bird’s northward journey. Golf courses with their open spaces, trees, and water features offer crucial resting and refueling spots for migrating birds flying thousands of miles. During our walk we were delighted to observe a wide variety of migratory birds, including the Bay-breasted Warbler, the Orchard Oriole, and the lively American Redstart. A particularly special sighting was the Golden-winged Warbler, a species facing population challenges and considered near-threatened. These sighting highlight the crucial role that green spaces, like our golf course, play in providing habitat for vulnerable birds.
