In conjunction with the Forest Preserves of Cook County, approximately five acres of buckthorn is in the process of being removed from the southeast portion of the property. This is a continuation of work already completed to the north on the Chicago Botanic Garden propert.
Buckthorn is a non-native invasive plant that significantly threatens our local environment. By clearing this species and other invasive brush, we are:
- Supporting Native Growth: Allowing existing healthy, native trees to thrive.
- Enhancing Wildlife Habitats: Providing better nesting sites and improved food sources (insects and berries) for local bird species.
- Promoting Sustainability: Ensuring the long-term health and resilience of our shared natural landscape.
This project is a vital sustainability initiative for our community. Thank you for your continued support as we work to improve our local ecosystem.
