The Glencoe Golf Club is participating in the 2018 Audubon International BioBlitz. The event consists of a species-counting competition designed to create awareness among golfers and the general public about the environmental value of the habitats supported by golf courses. Join us for our first annual BioBlitz! The golf course will be open to observers from 4:30pm until dusk.
The Glencoe Golf Club is hosting a FREE nature lovers event filled with outdoor fun and educational activities. Join us May 11th at 5:30pm, to enjoy nature while counting plant and animal species located on the golf course. Learn all about the GGC’s eco-friendly practices and the work that has been done to create habitat for wildlife, pollinators and especially the Monarch Butterflies!! Awards will be given for Most Species counted and Best Nature Photo.
Guided Species Exploration
Take a walk with a nature docent and explore the different species of plants and wildlife that inhabit the golf course.
Screech Owl Presentation by Rescuethebirds.org
Visit with a Screech Owl to learn all about their native habitat, behavior, and diet. Rich and Karen Weiner with rescuethebirds.org will be on site to answer any questions.
Identify Species and Win Prizes
Participate in a free species counting competition designed to showcase the environmental value of the natural habitats found on our golf course. Prizes will be awarded for Most Species Identified and Best Photo!

Correctly identifying species is one of the most important parts
of our 2018 BioBlitz! The following resources will help make sure you are accurately recording your species and provide a great learning
opportunity
- iNaturalist (free app): An app and website that uses the social network to assist with identifying species. Join us at our Inaturalist.org project page at https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/glencoe-golf-club-bioblitz-2018
- Audubon Birds of North America (free app): A wealth of
resources on birds including photos, maps and identification tips. http://www.audubon.org/apps - Encyclopedia of Life (website): A massive database containing 1.8 million species, including photos and basic information. www.eol.org
- National Resource Conservation Service (website): USDA’s
database of plants in the US and territories. http://plants.usda.gov/ - Leafsnap (free app): Leafsnap is the first in a series of
electronic field guides being developed by researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Institution. This free mobile app uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves. http://leafsnap.com/

BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.
